Business Coaching … what it is, how it works.
There are so many different definitions for business coaching, all very similar, very much context-dependant.
The best way to focus on and clarify this relatively new profession is starting to understand WHAT Business Coaching IS NOT, and then to define what does a business coach do that's different from other practices.
Business coaching
- It's not Consulting
It does not propose the solution directly, rather it supports the client (single or team) providing him with several enabling tools to find out the solutions just by using his skills and potential.
- It's not Psychotherapy
It does not analyse psychological problems, nor pathologies; it does not investigate on the past, nor it cures any personality problem, or acts directly on the character or on the unconscious of the people.
- It's not Personal (Life) Coaching
Personal or Life Coaching focuses on the sentimentality, on the relationships, on the behaviours; it addresses the social and the personal fields aiming to maximize the overall satisfaction of the human being of an individual.
The business coach, based on his experience and competence, gives support and proposes alternatives, tools and new techniques to work with the client-team enabling him to directly achieve proper decisions and solutions. Therefore it's a composite process based on mentoring-training-development-support aside of the company's team or single manager, which will consent to reach the agreed objective by strengthening the professional skills and competencies/capacities of the company resources.
Therefore the business coaching implies a strong and close partnership between the coach and the coachee (single manager or team).
Coaching practices and techniques are very common and popular in the English-speaking countries, and it is rapidly gaining round also in many other industrialized countries. It is mostly used by the companies to improve their business results by means of the continuous growth of capacities/skills and performance improvements of their managers and resources.
